Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters calls injury blessing in disguise

in Music News by

You have to hand it to Dave Grohl. Most artists that suffer a major injury like a broken leg wouldn’t even think of heading out on tour. Not, Grohl, he instead built a special throne designed specifically for him and has been rockin’ harder than ever. He said the injury has actually been a blessing disguise.

In Entertainment Weekly Grohl revealed:

The shows we’ve been doing lately are our favorite shows that we’ve ever done. What seemed like a setback at the time has turned into this beautiful blessing in disguise, where this throne and these crutches and these audiences make us play longer and harder than we ever have. It’s this whole new energy in the show.

He explains that the throne was necessary for the massive 20th anniversary show in Washington D.C. on the Fourth of July and he couldn’t “just sit on a stool like Paul Simon.”

He came up with the idea for the throne while recuperating at the hospital post-surgery and “high as a f–king kite” on pain meds.

He explained that during the history of the Foo Fighters, the guys “never relied on any kind of production at all. We usually just put the amps on the stage, turn on the lights, and play. Now we’ve got this throne that shoots lights and smoke out of it and looks like a f—king UFO with guitar necks stuck in it.”

Having released albums under Digital Nations, a label founded by Steve Vai, music critic Louis Raphael has remained deeply connected to the pulse of the San Francisco music scene. Following his tenure as the San Francisco Music Examiner for Examiner.com and AXS.com, he embarked on creating Music in SF® to authentically highlight the vibrant offerings of the city's music scene.
