KAABOO Del Mar is coming up in a few months. The epic music and comedy festival that is set to take place September 14-16 in sunny San Diego will feature heavy hitters like Foo Fighters, Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry, and legendary rock icon Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters.
A few locals bands are also set to perform at this year’s event so we wanted to put together a short list of who’ll be representing the Bay Area this year.
Diego’s Umbrella
Celebrated as San Francisco’s ambassadors of Gypsy Rock, these local heroes have created a sound that is truly their own. Blending eastern European sounds and flamenco with marching drums and an extravagant show, this is one band you won’t want to miss.
SWMRS
SWMRS (pronounced “swimmers”) is an American punk rock band formed in Oakland, California in 2004 by Cole Becker and Joey Armstrong. Besides straight punk, they mix in a range of other influences from the Beach Boys to the Ramones to create their own brand of rock.
Tower of Power
Tower of Power is a legendary American R&B band, who also call Oakland home. They’ve been performing since 1968 and had a number of lead vocalists, the most well-known being Lenny Williams. In total, they’ve had eight songs on the Billboard Hot 100, including “You’re Still a Young Man”, “So Very Hard to Go”, “What Is Hip?”, and “Don’t Change Horses (in the Middle of a Stream)”.
