Bay Area cowboys and cowgirls were out representing last night at the co-headlining show of Darius Rucker and Lady Antebellum at the Shoreline. Never have I seen so many cowboy hats, daisy dukes, and cowboy boots at a Bay Area concert before. Under the warm clear skies of Moutain View, each played a full set of good time country songs that had concertgoers humming their catchy melodies well into the moonlit night.
Darius Rucker opened the show and looked rugged yet debonaire sporting a pair of boot-cut jeans and a faded black t-shirt. The charming and charismatic singer felt natural onstage performing a genre of music whose fans have graciously accepted him with no trepidation since the Hootie days. And although all the songs he played that night had everyone in the audience dancing from the seat of their chairs, it was his cover of the song he penned with his old bandmates, “I Only Want to Be With You,” that garnered the biggest audience response.

Lady Antebellum had some big shoes to fill once they hit the stage after that, but without hesitation, the trio came out bathed in the soft glow of the stage’s spotlight and performed a flawless set from the start to finish. The harmonies were ethereal and choruses contagious. The band with the million-dollar looks is such a pleasure to watch live that it was difficult to accept when they ended their set.
