MUSIC IN SF TONIGHT: Pet Shop Boys Play The Fox Theater in Oakland

in Music News by

The Pet Shop Boys started the U.S. leg of their “Super” worldwide tour Oct. 21 in Las Vegas and will be making a stop in the Bay Area in Oakland tonight. They’ll be performing songs from their impressive catalog as well as their new album, “Super.”

This tour will be staged by long-time Pet Shop Boys designer Es Devlin and choreographer Lynne Page. The band is collaborating for live music arrangements with Stuart Price, who produced and mixed their latest album along with 2013’s “Electric.”

The duo’s latest release entered the official U.K. Album Charts at #3 marking the duo’s sixteenth U.K. Top 10 album to date. The first single “The Pop Kids” reached #1 on Billboard’s U.S. Dance Club Charts. The album was written in London and Berlin and features 12 new Tennant/Lowe compositions. About the album Entertainment Weekly said, “The legendary British electro-pop duo are still kicking—and celebrating their third decade together with this ebullient new album.”

Over the last 25 years Pet Shop Boys have gained a reputation as innovators of the modern live music show. They were among the first to integrate multimedia and theatrical elements into their productions, and they have collaborated with Derek Jarman, Zaha Hadid and Sam Taylor Johnson. This time around the shows are no different and the Bay Area music scene will get a taste of it on Wednesday night when the pair perform at the Fox Theater.
