It’s Britney Bitch. Those infamous lyrics were first sung by the iconic singer on the track “Gimme More” from her fifth studio album, and although that was almost 10 years ago, they couldn’t ring truer today. At her show “Piece of Me” in Las Vegas last night, she brought that same sense of confidence to a crowd full of hungry fans, some that had shelled out close to $300 for a ticket. And like the true consummate professional that she is, Britney sang hit after hit to a completely sold-out audience, which is an impressive feat considering how long her show has been running. (After four years her show is ending on December 31, so if you haven’t gotten a chance to see her yet, now’s the time.)
The first thing that hits you at a Britney Spears concert, is the amazing catalog that this artist has amassed. Where most musicians would pepper a few snoozer songs in between hits to fill out a set, in Brit’s case, the hits never stop. Last night she sang one of after another including some of her most famous masterpieces “Oops!…I did it again,” “You Drive Me Crazy,” and “Baby one More time.”
Hearing the songs for the first time in a live setting complete with a backup band comprised of some of the best musicians in the industry really brings the material to a whole new level. That coupled with Britney’s infectious charisma, sexiness and stage presence, makes for a concoction that is nothing short of miraculous. And so at the point of the show when the doe-eyed starlet came floating down from above in a giant angel outfit, it was simply heavenly.
The costume design was gorgeous, the dancing like no other and the set simply stunning. The digital crescendo for the evening came in the form of a video cameo by Will.i.am for the song “Scream & Shout,” which was complimented by an elaborate laser show that left the audience gasping in disbelief.
Leading up to the performance fans were welcomed in the lobby by an assortment of some of Britney’s most iconic outfits. Some worn in music videos while others in award show performances. You could see her fans (a few of them that looked exactly like her) throughout the night staring in awe, taking endless selfies, in an attempt to be captured with the epochal artifact.
At the end of the night, although people looked a little tired from having danced the night away, they seemed ever so grateful to have witnessed such an epic performance. It was exciting, sexy, beautiful, but most all loads of fun. The posters plastered all over the Strip weren’t kidding when they advertised this show as the hottest ticket in Vegas, and after last night’s unbelievable performance, one would be hard-pressed to argue otherwise.
